What Is So Special About DHAA?
These images are called chromatograms; they are the output of an instrument known as an HPLC which is used to identify and measure vitamin C in solutions. ![]() ![]() ![]() Fig. 1 AA: The big peak is l-ascorbic acid, the well-known form of vitamin C found in ReCverin C and in certain other brands of high quality vitamin C serums. AA helps soften and hydrate the stratum corneum (the outer layer of skin comprised of dead skin cells), and some of it it can absorb into the deeper living tissues where its antioxidant and other properties are most beneficial. But the stratum corneum poses a great barrier to AA, and only a small amount of each application is actually absorbed...the rest just stays on the surface of the skin and is finally washed away. This is why high concentrations about 10% are needed. Fig. 2 DHAA: A solution containing l-dehydroascorbic acid does not produce a peak because this other naturally-occurring form of vitamin C is chemically different than AA. The instrument's detector is unable to "see" it. This "invisible" form of vitamin C absorbs through the stratum corneum at a rate and in amounts about 12 times greater than AA, into the extracellular fluids of your skin. From there, it is transported across the cell membranes and into the living cells at a rate 5 times faster than AA, and to levels 2 times higher than AA! Fig. 3 DHAA + Reducing Agent: The same solution as in Fig. 2 was treated with a chemical reducing agent which converts the DHAA into AA, showing the characteristic l-ascorbic acid peak. When DHAA is transported inside of living cells, natural enzymatic reducing agents immediately convert it into AA. Because ReCverin 50/50 is formulated with DHAA,
it delivers much more vitamin C using lower, more gentle concentrations.
Did you know that half of the Vitamin C in normal skin is in the oxidized form known as dehydroascorbic acid? Did you know that dehydroascorbic acid is absorbed into the stratum corneum 12 times faster, and into the skin cells 5 times faster and to levels 2 times higher than is ascorbic acid? |

Why are there such
High Levels
of DHAA in skin? What about the man-made Chemical Derivatives of Vitamin C? What are Ascorbyl Palmitate, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate (MAP), Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (SAP), Tetra-Isopalmitoyl Ascorbic Acid, and Tetrahexyldecylascorbate? Are these physiologically useful forms of Vitamin C? Why do manufacturer's of other skincare products use them? |

Did you know that Vitamin C can only enter the cells via transporters in the cell membrane? Did you know that the only known transporters are for ascorbic acid or dehydroascorbic acid? |

What about other Skin Actives like Vitamin E (tocopherol), Ferulic Acid, Alpha-Hydroxy Acids, Alpha-Lipoic Acid, Hyaluronic Acid, and the host of biological extracts like Acai and Green Tea? Why don't we put them in our products? |
