These and many other questions are addressed in our FAQs and many of these topics are further explored in detailed discussion pages.
Although everyone has heard of Vitamin C, many are unfamiliar with its chemistry. Surprisingly few people have ever heard of dehydroascorbic acid, even though it's been known for nearly 80 years to be one of the two naturally-occurring forms of Vitamin C. And, particularly in the field of skincare products, there is a great deal of erroneous information about both the physiology and the chemical nature of natural Vitamin C.

What Is So Special About DHAA?

These images are called chromatograms; they are the output of an instrument known as an HPLC
which is used to identify and measure vitamin C in solutions.

Fig. 1 AA: The big peak is l-ascorbic acid, the well-known form of vitamin C found in ReCverin C™ and in certain other brands of high quality vitamin C serums. AA helps soften and hydrate the stratum corneum (the outer layer of skin comprised of dead skin cells), and some of it it can absorb into the deeper living tissues where its antioxidant and other properties are most beneficial. But the stratum corneum poses a great barrier to AA, and only a small amount of each application is actually absorbed...the rest just stays on the surface of the skin and is finally washed away. This is why high concentrations about 10% are needed.

Fig. 2 DHAA: A solution containing l-dehydroascorbic acid does not produce a peak because this other naturally-occurring form of vitamin C is chemically different than AA. The instrument's detector is unable to "see" it. This "invisible" form of vitamin C absorbs through the stratum corneum at a rate and in amounts about 12 times greater than AA, into the extracellular fluids of your skin. From there, it is transported across the cell membranes and into the living cells at a rate 5 times faster than AA, and to levels 2 times higher than AA!

Fig. 3 DHAA + Reducing Agent: The same solution as in Fig. 2 was treated with a chemical reducing agent which converts the DHAA into AA, showing the characteristic l-ascorbic acid peak. When DHAA is transported inside of living cells, natural enzymatic reducing agents immediately convert it into AA.

Because ReCverin 50/50™ is formulated with DHAA,
it delivers much more vitamin C using lower, more gentle concentrations.

Did you know that half of the Vitamin C in normal skin is in the oxidized form known as dehydroascorbic acid? Did you know that dehydroascorbic acid is absorbed into the stratum corneum 12 times faster, and into the skin cells 5 times faster and to levels 2 times higher than is ascorbic acid?
Why are there such High Levels of DHAA in skin?

What about the man-made Chemical Derivatives of Vitamin C? What are Ascorbyl Palmitate, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate (MAP), Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (SAP), Tetra-Isopalmitoyl Ascorbic Acid, and Tetrahexyldecylascorbate? Are these physiologically useful forms of Vitamin C? Why do manufacturer's of other skincare products use them?
Did you know that Vitamin C can only enter the cells via transporters in the cell membrane? Did you know that the only known transporters are for ascorbic acid or dehydroascorbic acid?

What about other Skin Actives like Vitamin E (tocopherol), Ferulic Acid, Alpha-Hydroxy Acids, Alpha-Lipoic Acid, Hyaluronic Acid, and the host of biological extracts like Acai and Green Tea? Why don't we put them in our products?

About Our Products

  • Our products are simple and pure, without additives that can cause irritation or other adverse skin reactions.
  • Both ReCverin 50/50™ and ReCverin C™ contain high concentrations of Vitamin C that enhance your natural anti-oxidant protection to promote healthy, attractive skin and a more beautiful complexion.
  • Both are distributed in large, economical sizes and come straight from our facility to your door for guaranteed freshness.
  • Our concentrated serums are odorless and clear. They mix with water, so you can apply them at whatever consistency you desire. Your skin will be softer and smoother with a pleasant silky feeling.
  • And because they are clear and colorless, any deterioration of the Vitamin C content is readily apparent, not obscured by the color or opacity of additives.

ReCverin 50/50™
Our Ultimate Serum and Most Advanced Formula

This product contains both of nature's absorbable and efficient forms of Vitamin C, combining L-ascorbic acid (AA) and L-dehydroascorbic acid (DHAA), stabilized in a 5% concentration, and balanced to the natural composition of normal skin. ReCverin 50/50™ is the world's first and only skincare product with high concentrations of DHAA.
  • DHAA is the non-ionized, more lipophilic form of Vitamin C, which means it is gentle and can penetrate the skin more easily. In vitro studies have shown it is absorbed into skin cells 5 times faster and in amounts 2 times higher than any other form of Vitamin C. Therefore it provides much more useful Vitamin C at lower concentrations, rejuvenating the pool of Vitamin C in the skin with the form that is most rapidly available when and where it is needed most.

  • AA is the ionizable, more hydrophilic form of Vitamin C. This form has been shown to have the higher collagen-stimulating activity of the two forms. However, the amount needed in the skin to maximize this particular effect is relatively low. ReCverin 50/50™ is formulated to contain an effective but lower, far more gentle concentration of AA.
ReCverin 50/50™ is specifically formulated to be:
  • Most effective
  • Gentle, for even the most sensitive skin types.
Who is it for?
  • Everyone!

ReCverin C™
A Quality L-Ascorbic Acid Serum With Unheard-of Stability.

Contains 10% L-Ascorbic Acid in anhydrous glycerin base.
  • Easily retains greater than 95% of its original Vitamin C content for at least a year when stored at normal room temperatures. This product does not have the natural ratio of AA:DHAA that our premier product contains, but it does have a high and effective level of AA. It's not as good as our premier product...it's just better than any other l-ascorbic acid serum!
ReCverin C™ is specifically formulated to be:
  • Economical
  • Stable
Who is it for?
  • Those seeking a pure, natural, stable, economical L-Ascorbic Acid serum, whose skin can tolerate higher levels of ascorbic acid, and who recognize that "some is better than none."
